Professional Chemistry Major
The professional program in Chemistry includes enough work in mathematics, physics, and chemistry to prepare the student adequately for graduate study and to provide the minimum requirements for a career as a professional chemist. The minimum requirements for a B. S. degree are Chemistry, 43 hours; Math 3202 and necessary prerequisites; Physics 2004, 2014; and research*. A minor must be completed in one of the following: mathematics, physics, computer science, or biology.

*Research requirement can be met by taking Chemistry 4201-4492 for a minimum of one
credit hour (three hours laboratory per week for one semester) or by participating
in a summer undergraduate research participation program either at Ouachita or at

taken to complete a minor.
